Zhang ZhouJie
Zhang Zhoujie, born in 1984 in Zhejiang, China, is a pioneer in contemporary Chinese digital design and digital art. Through his unique concept of “computer-generated creation,” he has redefined the boundaries between design and art. He serves as an Associate Professor at the Shanghai International Design Innovation Institute of Tongji University while also working as an independent designer and digital artist.
Graduating from the China Academy of Art, he pursued further studies in the UK, earning a Master of Industrial Design from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. In 2010, he founded the Zhang Zhoujie Digital Design Lab in Shanghai, formally launching the digital furniture brand EndlessForm® in 2018.
His core philosophy is “natural emergence.” He advocates that designers should adopt the role of an ‘observer’ or practice “non-intervention,” inputting mathematical logic and algorithms into computers to allow forms to “grow” organically like natural organisms, rather than being forcibly shaped by human intervention. His signature Triangulation chair series is hand-assembled from countless irregular triangular metal plates, transforming the digital “mesh” of the virtual world into physical three-dimensional sculptures. Though computer-generated, the finished pieces predominantly use metals like stainless steel and brass, meticulously hand-welded and polished to achieve a highly experimental and futuristic aesthetic.
His works frequently appear at international auction houses like Phillips and are held in collections by museums (such as Hong Kong's M+ Museum) and private collectors worldwide. He was named one of “Fast Company's 100 Most Creative People in Business in China” and selected for “Forbes China's 2021 Top 10 Most Valuable Intelligent Designers.”
Positioned as high-end, limited-edition artistic furniture, his creations blend AI-driven data customization with artistic scarcity, establishing him as a leading figure in China's digital fabrication field.
