Xie Ke

Xie Ke, born in Hong Kong in 1955, is a rare multi-disciplinary artist in the contemporary art scene, possessing a profound design background, international curatorial experience, and a cross-regional cultural perspective. In 1980, he traveled to Beijing as a visiting scholar at the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts (now the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University), becoming the first Hong Kong artist to pursue advanced studies in Beijing after the Cultural Revolution.

Xie Ke is regarded as a bridge connecting artistic exchanges between China, Hong Kong, and Singapore. He founded the “Ke Gallery” in Singapore and resided long-term in Beijing and Singapore. He later conducted cultural research and artistic practice in Taiwan and Japan, embodying multiple roles as a sculptor, painter, designer, and curator. Currently a member of the Hong Kong Artists Association, his half-century artistic journey has earned him immense prestige and scholarly authority within the contemporary art world.

His sculptures feature a vibrant style, often conveying themes of fairness, justice, and ideals through concise, humorous forms. He excels at packaging serious cultural reflections within lighthearted visual language.

His signature sculptures often feature children striving upward, symbolizing life's vibrant energy and society's future pillars, radiating positive vitality.

Drawing from his design background, he demonstrates exquisite control over proportions. Frequently employing modern materials like high-chromium steel, he creates an elegant, contemporary industrial aesthetic.

His paintings transform the visual impact of advertising design into artistic expression. His compositions reconstruct cultural landscapes through flattened, symbolic imagery—characterized by rigorous structure, saturated color, and a cool humor infused with acute observations of societal shifts.
